Montreal

  • Super 8 Hotel (Lachenaie, QC)  ---March 2009; Hotel is relatively new. We upgraded to a suite for added room for weapon repairs! The kitchenette in this room was handy for a 2-day trip. Especially since there are no dining options inside the hotel. There are nearby places to eat/shop. The beds were not so comfortable (ok for those without back issues, perhaps) but left us with sore backs for the competition - not good! Overall the suite was clean and spacious. Would recommend for travellers who must stay outside of Montreal. * * * * * *
  • Aloft Hotel (Dorval, QC) ---May 2009; We have stayed twice. First time was better, but both satisfactory, nonetheless. Hotel is quite new. Decor is clean and fresh. Bed is comfortable. Room has large flat screen TV if you are interested in that! Wireless internet and parking at no charge. Shower is quite luxurious! Got the room 3 nights for the price of free, so that was an appealing feature, also. Check for frequent specials. This hotel is at the PE Trudeau Airport, so shuttle is offered from the airport. It is a 20 minute drive to downtown, so if you are looking to spend most of your time there, I would recommend staying downtown to avoid the traffic. Negative - no restaurant in the hotel; far from downtown There is a restaurant in the hotel next door, so you may walk over. The hotel offers a bar and snacks/breakfast. * * * * * * * 1/2
  • Hyatt (Montreal, QC) ---May 2010; Stayed during Victoria Day weekend. Not sure if it was because of the busy weekend (plus hockey playoffs) or if it was the normal atmosphere of the hotel, but the experience was like throwing a high school prom and hockey fanatics in an overbooked hotel at the same time. Booking was a problem; the stay was a headache - drunken idiots all through the hallways and rooms making tons of noise. The only good thing about the stay was the bed was comfortable. They should really tile the bathroom ceiling over the shower because mold was forming. Overall if the hotel was without the morons and the staff were more helpful the hotel has potential for a good stay. Location was very good. Restaurant "ok".  * * * * * *

Ottawa

  • Lord Elgin Hotel  ---December 2009; Will not stay again! Not as advertised; staff would not admit that they were totally wrong even though they knew they were. Took too much effort to be accommodated further, despite being the hotel's errors. Bed was horrible- would have had a better sleep in my car. Horrible smell of perfume or similar covering up what smelled like cigarette odor in a smoke-free hotel. Hotel had valet (parking fee) and restaurant & Starbucks in the hotel. ***

Calgary

  • Fairmont Hotel  ---November 2008; This Fairmont was similar to other Fairmonts visited. Room was large and well decorated. Bed was very comfortable. Would recommend the Fairmont breakfast, but skip lunch and dinner - dine out! Location is close to attrations and transit. Would recommend to travellers looking for a comfortable stay. * * * * * * * *
