SFM offers group lessons and training year-round, as well as private/semi-private lessons and drop in fencing. All group classes are low ratio (coach - fencer).

Course descriptions below:

 

Beginner

 

Introduction to the challenging and strategic sport of Fencing - Epee. (Yellow armband skills introduced)

Safe development of fundamental footwork and bladework.

Warm up, stretch, instruction and practice time.

 

Next class:  September 17 (8 weeks) ; 90 mins/class on Wednesday nights (6.15 - 7.45 pm)

                       January 2009 (pre-registration accepted)

 - All equipment provided  - $165

*CFF/OFA licence required for all fencers (annual membership - $15)

   

Future Fencer Program (Mini-Fence)

Program for 6 - 9 year olds; Introduction to fencing, through games.

Unlike a traditional fencing course, this session will introduce only the basics, with children's equipment (foam swords and plastic masks) and focus on games and activities to slowly introduce some aspects of fencing footwork and holding a weapon.

  

 Start Date: Mondays, Jan 2009 6.15 - 7 pm (5 weeks)

 - All equipment provided - $85

  

Intermediate

 

Progressive development and practice of fundamentals (continuation of armband program) with introduction of new attacks, defence and bouting.

Equipment provided; however electric weapon, glove, wire recommended purchase for bouting.

 

Next class: Nov. 12 - Dec 17 (5 weeks) $105

Advanced - Tactics

 

More developed techniques, compound attacks and tactical practice to advance fencing knowledge and skills. Preparation for competition and assessment. 1/2 hour of fencing each class. Membership allows fencing during club hours.

Fitness - Competitive Preperation

  

Focus on getting in "fencing shape". Physical and mental training for competitive fencing.

Class will be fitness training/drill + elecric fencing, along with assistance on competition planning.

Membership allows for open fencing on club nights. See also: Memberships.

Fee: Membership (2 months or more - your choice) + $75

 

Private Lessons and Private Groups

  

Mondays and Wednesdays (between 6 - 9.30 pm) when available.

Summer session: Monday and Tuesday nights

 

Private lessons from 1-2 people for 15 - 60 mins from $10+

Private Groups: customized lessons.
